Minimum Requirements to Obtain a Library Card

To obtain a library card, a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID is required.  Valid government issued photo ID's include:

  • Driver's license
  • State ID
  • Military ID (if living on base)
  • Passport
  • Consular ID card ("green card")

Full-Access Library Card

To checkout physical items on library shelves, applicants must also be a Texas resident and must provide an additional proof of current mailing address (PDF file, 880KB).

 

 

Internet Only Card

Internet Only cards may be obtained with a valid government-issued photo ID only and may be used to access library computers and most online resources such as Overdrive Ebooks and Digital Research sites.

Kanopy streaming movie service is not accessible with an Internet Only card.

Internet Only cards may be upgraded for free to a full access card with proof of current mailing address (PDF file, 880KB).

 

 

Children's Card

Applicants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian with proper identification and proof of mailing address (PDF file, 880KB).

The parent or legal guardian is responsible for material checked out on the minor's card.

When the patron turns 18, the children's card may be replaced with an adult card for free.

 

 

Cost, Expiration, and Renewals

The first library card issued to a patron is free. 

Library cards expire every two years and may be renewed for free if the patron retains the physical card.

Replacing lost cards cost $3.

Please notify library staff of any changes to personal information, such as a change in name, address, phone number, cell phone provider, and email address.

Online Registration

Applicants may apply for a card online.

Please note, if applying online, the applicant must still come into one of the three library branches with proper documentation as outlined above to obtain the physical library card and before being able to use the account.

 

TexShare Card

Expand the libraries you can use to nearly 500 libraries with an additional TexShare card.

Sign up for a TexShare card at any of our three locations. You must meet these criteria:

  • You have a non-expired Tom Green County Library card that is in good standing
  • You are at least 18 years of age

TexShare cards are good for one year. To continue after a year, reapply for another TexShare card.
